Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine is wholistic medicine at it's finest.  Utilizing modern science and evidence based medicine naturopathic physicians find and treat the underlying cause of a patient's illness.

The foundations of naturopathic medicine are:

  • The healing power of nature: recognizing that inherent self healing is organized and intelligent, naturopathic doctors identify and help remove obstacles to healing.

  • Identify and treat the root cause: seek and remove the underlying cause of disease rather than treat symptoms

  • First do no harm: utilize methods which minimize harmful adverse effects, avoid suppression of symptoms, work with individuals' self-healing process

  • Doctor as teacher: Educate patients and encourage self-responsibilty for health

  • Treat the whole person

  • Prevention

Naturopathic Medical training

Naturopathic doctors are highly trained Primary Care Physicians required to complete a 4 year medical education at an accredited Naturopathic Medical School.  The curriculum includes study of basic sciences (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, etc)and in-depth study of pharmaceutical medicine, clinical and laboratory diagnostic testing, nutritional medicine, botanical medicine, naturopathic physical medicine (including naturopathic manipulative therapy), public health measures, minor surgery, homeopathy, intravenous and injection therapy.  Following education at an accredited school, Naturopahtic doctors must pass the Naturopathic Physician's Licensing Examination (NPLEX) and are then certified by the North American Board of Naturopathic Examiners (NABNE) to practice medicine.
